Print sharing causes USB devices to stop working

Hello,

I have a two computer network. Both are Compaq Presario notebooks
running WinXP home. They are networked by 802.11b wireless LAN. One
notebook has a USB printer connected to it and is shared. When the
other notebook sends a printjob to the printer, it sends and prints
okay. It is at that point that other USB devices connected to the
'host' notebook stop working properly. It seems to happen only when
print jobs are sent over the wireless network. Does anybody have any
ideas on what's happening here and how to resolve?

Regards,

A similar question came up earlier today. How is the printer
connected - to a USB port on the Host notebook or through
an expansion HUB ?

I'm just speculating based on your description, you may have
overloaded the available Bandwidth on your USB controller
and that shut down the other devices. It would help to know
what other USB devices are active on the Host PC. To check
your bandwidth, open Device Manager and double-click on
each USB controller entry in Universal Serial Bus Controllers
category. Then click the Advanced (TAB). Check the data
in the window. ( A normal unloaded USB controller will show
only a 10% System reservation level)
