Print Jobs in Queue won't Delete

When there is only one job left, or in queue, printing no
matter what I try it won't delete or cancel. I've even
turned both the printer and computer off but on reboot it
starts in printing a line of garbage on several pages. HP
says I have the latest drivers for my DeskJet 5550.
Suggestions?
