print from cmd

while attempting to print from command pmompt if I type
the following:
Print filename.* I get the following message
unable to initialize device PRN

If I type:
dir>lpt1 I get the following message
Access is denied

Is this some sort of security/permissions problem? I am
logged on as adminst with full rights. Also how do I set
permissions/access rights for my whole computer and all
folders without having to set sharing for each individual
folder one by one? Thanks in advance once again!!!!!

If the printer on lpt1 is set to NOT use the spooler (print directly to the
port is enabled), then try to enable the spooler.
