Previous/Next in Outlook 2003 email message crash if use HTML

Hi, we discovered an issue with Outlook 2003 as the client using Microsoft
Exchange 2007 as the email server and the Previous/Next arrows within an
email message will cause Outlook to crash and restart if an HTML message is
encountered as you are going along. We have reproduced the same issue on 3
different pcs. All updates have been applied. The error doesn't occur if all
email is read in plain text, which really isn't an option to view HTML emails
correctly.

The Event ID for the error is 1000 and the source is Microsoft Office 11.
Category is None and Type is Error.

The error description is:

Faulting application outlook.exe, version 11.0.8169.0, stamp 465f28e3,
faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, stamp 00000000, debug? 0, fault
address 0x0069000c.

Also, sometimes get an additional error with the Event ID of 1000 but with
Application Error as the Source. Category is None and Type is Error.

The error description for this is:

Faulting application outlook.exe, version 11.0.8169.0, faulting module
outllib.dll, version 11.0.8169.0, fault address 0x0001719e.

I have tried running Outlook with various switches such as /cleanviews and
/cleanprofile and /nocustomize. I also removed all files from the Documents
and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder. This seemed to
fix using the down or Next arrow but not the up or Previous arrow.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi, what do you mean about "the Previous/Next arrows within an email
message "?

"Me too".

By next/previous he means the up/down arrows on the email item view window toolbar - go to next/previous email (typically after the delete 'X' button on a standard email item view).

This is how it fails for me (same error logged; same effect - Outlook crashes, then restarts itself).

If I'm viewing a mail item, then use the 'next' button, and the next item is:

- HTML format
- the HTML includes embedded graphics

(i.e. shows as having attachments, but these aren't pointers to remote images, but actual images embedded in the mail message)

then the error occurs (Outlook instantly fails, and then restarts itself :: error shows in outllib.dll).

If I double-click the same item from the list of mail items in the Inbox window it works fine. It's only when moving from one item to the next that the failure occurs. And even then it's not every time - but the majority.

I'm on Outlook 2003 SP3.

Everything was fine until last week when I upgraded to IE7. All software up to date according to ms.update.

Outlook definitely using the IE HTML rendering - the fonts are a giveaway.
