Previewing reports

A

Alan Bentley

I am using Access 2002 (SP3) set to 2000 file format and have been producing
reports for many months without any problems but recently when I try to
preview reports the preview screen is empty with not even a blank page being
displayed.

If I then open the database and run the reports object within Access several
seconds elapse before I get the message "Access cannot print or preview the
page because the page size you selected is greater than 22.75 inches".

If I then try to run it again, it runs correctly and continues to do so
until I close Access when the problem recurs.

I have tried reinstalling Access but the problem still exists.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Yup. Been there, done that. The problem is not with Access. You have a
printer disconnect. When Access (or any MS product) wants to either preview
or print, it gets its printer specifications from the operating system.
First, check your default printer. Even if you only have one printer, the
printer spec could now be pointing to a "generic" printer. You might have to
re-install your printer driver. Do other reports have the same problem?
Have you had any printer problems lately? Have you made any software
upgrades to the operating system or printer software? Have you installed
some other graphics package such as a "publisher"?

Steve,

Many thanks for the suggestions.
The environment I have is a peer-to-peer network of a Dell Desktop (Win
98SE) with two printers attached: A HP LJ 2110m and a HP OJ 6110. I also
have a Dell laptop (Win2kProf) connected that I do all my work on - this is
where Access lives.

Following your suggestions, I've tried selecting the OJ6110 as the default
and the problem is resolved! Brilliant.

I've obtained the latest drivers from HP for the LJ2110m and installed them
but the problem still exists. Incidentally, on the printer properties page,
the Paper Available pane is empty and I cannot get it to recognise any
paper. However, the paper tab shows A4 as the current paper size.

I think that I'll re-install the printer on the Desktop as the next step...

Many thanks once again.

Alan
