Preview window not working

The preview window in the upper right corner no longer plays my project I
have on the timeline. It is black and doesn't play the video. The video
appears to be playing because when the play button is clicked the blue line
moves on the timeline.

i have almost the same problem.

using imported video clips i created a time line. all the clips worked fine
individually. but when run in my time line only the audio plays there is no
video at all. please help!

im using movie maker 2 and the files are wmv. i have seen other posts
reccomending codec compatibility changes but i cant seem to find this option
