preview pane and spam

Is there a way to prevent the preview pane in Outlook 2000
from accessing any html links so it only shows text or
html code actually sent with the email? In other words,
how can I isolate Outlook from any web sites other than my
email server?

I've been receiving increasing quantities of spam, and
much of it contains my email address in the html link that
the spammer is hoping I'll click. I'm always careful to
delete these messages without opening them or selecting
the link, but it occurs to me that the preview pane
accesses the web site anyway, returning my email address
as "someone who bites" and my IT department suggests that
I turn off the preview pane to avoid this.

To reduce carpal tunnel, I'd much prefer to keep the
preview pane on (it's obviously a useful feature), but I
can't find any option to isolate it from outside web
sites. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
