Hi.
How do I prevent some users from copying or deleting an Access database file
(application and data) from a shared folder on the network server.

If it's a multiuser database, then you can't prevent copying and deleting of
the file by authorized users, because authorized users must have read
permissions (which also allows the user to copy the file) and delete
permissions (which allows multiple users read and write to the file
simultaneously) for the directory that contains the database file. This is
one of the downsides to using a file-based database like Access. A
client/server database, such as Oracle or SQL Server would avoid this issue,
but these systems cost much more than an Access database system does.

Of course, unauthorized users of the Access database should not have _any_
Windows security permissions on the directory that contains the Access
database file.

For some alternatives to hide the data (and possibly protect it from
inadvertent deletion by users), please see the tip, "How to be sneakier than
the snoops peeking at data they shouldn’t see." You'll find the link to this
tip in the Security section on the following Web page:

Make sure that you have good backups of the Access database files, and make
sure that you have frequent backups of any files that you think are in danger
of deletion.
