Preserve leading zeros

Is there a way to preserve leading zeros in a number without treating it
as text?
For example when I enter the census track 0811.01 it comes out as 811.01

Format the cells under number tab as custom and
type "0000.00" this is easier than adding an apostrophe on
every entry

Hi George!

Unless you're going to do calculations on the cell, pre-format as
text.

Or enter a ' or " or ^ before entering the number. ' left aligns, "
right aligns and ^ centres

If you want to use it as a number and it's all four digits before the
point use custom format 0000.00

Thanks for the info, it seems so simple, especially since I use the customer formating for many other uses, but sometimes it the little things that you forget.
