Presentation suddenly interrupts and returns to first slide`

We are using PPT2003 in Windows XP as part of office suite.

During a presentation, the presentation suddenly, and without warning, and
without any error message, suddenly interrupts itself and returns to the
first slide. It stays in Show mode. We then have to click through the slides
again to get back to where we were. As you can imagine this is quite
distressing. It doesn't seem to occur at particular intervals or slides. It
appears to be quite a random thing.

We use a laptop, dataprojector and remote control for the presentation (with
an infrared thingy in a USB port on the laptop to allow the remote to
operate).

I have tried to replicate this error at home and cannot. The only
differences I can think of are that when making the presentations we are
often using a wireless lapel microphone.

Could this be causing the interruptions and if so any suggestions on
alternatives.

I have searched this site and most of the questions relate to PPT actually
exiting show mode or quitting or with error messages. But I have checkout our
screen saver and virus protection and I am confident they do not seem to be
the problem.

The only other thing is sometimes I copy slides from one presentation and
paste them into another. I couldn't imagine this would be causing the
difficulties.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and would stop my husband pulling his
hair out when he next makes a presentation!

Thanks in advance.

While you sort out the cause, if you know the number of last slide you were
on, simply type the number and hit return and you will jump straight back
there. You could work out the number quickly from a printout.

Meanwhile the remote control looks suspect. Does the same thing happen in
the same location without it? There may be other infra red devices present
(burglar alarms? other remote controlled devices?). Does yours have an
option to switch to a different setting? It might be a faulty r/c; or you
might be accidentally hitting a combination of keys that equate to 'Home'.

The remote control would have been my first guess, too. But I would start
as easy as inserting a new battery.

It isn't a touch sensitive electronic white board the presentation is being
shown on, is it? We have one, and whenever the presenters go up to show a
point, they touch the board, and it actually can jump multiple slides.
