pre-windows 2000 user logon name

Theo Welles

Hi all

my win2k domain is currently running in mixed mode, I am planning on moving
to Native Mode.

Will this impact the users capability of loggin on to the domain using their
pre-Win2k User Logon Name?

i.e. a user like (e-mail address removed) can now logon using the
pre-win 2k user name JSmith and selecting domain mydomaincom on the
win2k logon mask.

Will this still be available after I move to Native Mode?

Thank you!!

In general no -- Native/Mixed mode has virtually nothing to do "with
Clients".

These modes are strictly about the support (mixed) or lack of support
(Native)
for NT BDCs and the consequent addition of features in Native mode when
BDC support is no longer required.

i.e. a user like (e-mail address removed) can now logon using the
pre-win 2k user name JSmith and selecting domain mydomaincom on the
win2k logon mask.

As long as the NetBIOS domain name is resolvable (which it is now) you
will be fine.
Will this still be available after I move to Native Mode?

Yes.

Native mode should really be renamed to "No BDC allowed mode", as this is
the only effect that is brings to your AD. Other functions remain intact.
