Can anyone give me a tip on why, when itrying to open an older version of a
ppt presentation it will only open in viewer and not in the ppt program?

The error message... "PowerPoint can't read..." and gives the location of
the file

It will open in viewer, but to edit I need it opened in PowerPoint.

Thanks,

It is possible that the presentation you have has been created in PowerPoint
2002 or later and has password protection on it. You haven't mentioned which
version of PowerPoint you posses but I am guessing it is either PowerPoint
97 or 2000; both of which throw the error you mentioned if the above holds
true.

You may have the latest PowerPoint viewer which supports password protected
presentations.

Thanks for the input. I actually scrolled through the first 10 pages of
other problems and solutions and found my answer!! It seems that I needed
some updates for my 2003 version before it would run the older PowerPoint
presentations. After checking for downloadable updates and installing the
updates I am off to to the races! Thanks to everyone for your posts and help!

I have a similar problem. I only want a ppt file to open in Full Powerpoint,
NOT the viewer. Can I force it to open in Full Powerpoint?

Thanks,

Similar or identical? If similar, describe the symptoms and tell us what
version of PPT you have.

If 2003, choose Help, Check for Updates and apply any recommended patches.
