.ppt compatibility mode not working

I made a presentation using a template in 2007 and saved it in compatibility
mode.

I followed the instructions in the help file to remove the special
formatting on the title text so that it would be editable in PPT 2003. But it
doesn't work. The title text is still not editable in earlier versions (tried
2000 and 2003).

Is there any way to change the formatting so the title text can be edited in
a previous version without having to delete all the pre-made text boxes and
start over?

I didn't leave any formatting. I followed the instructions in the help file
and removed the formatting.

But evidently, the original formatting is still in the background because if
I highlight the "unformatted" text and click the "Clear All Formatting"
button, the original text with the shadowing appears.

I was using the "Paper" template.

You'll probably need to visit each of the slide masters in 2007 and for each
text placeholder, select the text in it, rightclick and choose format text.

Then set Shadow to none and Outline to none.

That seems to make 2003 happy here, though you'll know it's working if the
compatibility checker in the Save dialog box doesn't kick up a fuss when you
save from 2007.
