PPT and Word automatically close with error message

S

Sandy

Can you please tell me how to fix this? Every time I use Powerpoint and
almost every time I use Word, they show this error message upon closing:
PPT/Word has experienced an error and needs to close. Thanksfully, I don't
always lose info but what gives? I'm in Windows XP on a PC.

Which version of PowerPoint? Have you done a Detect and Repair? Have all the
Service Patches been applied?

Much obliged. I have Ofice 2007 and regularly check for updates. I'm
downloading the Office patch now, thanks to you. I hope that will help. I
think that's the same as Detect and Repair?

M

Michael Koerner

If after you have installed the patch, hopefully it will repair whatever is
broken. If not, then click on the Office Button, PowerPoint Options,
Resources, and click on the Diagnose button. That should fix the problem.
You may have to insert your original CD

Well, Diagnostics ran and found nothing. All my updates are current, too.
Do you have any other ideas? It also happens in Word, although not every
time as it does in PowerPoint. Thanks for your help, Sandy

Make sure you have a default printer installed for that particular machine

In addition to a printer driver issue (which Michael mentioned), it could
also be an add-in conflict. If you go to Office Button | PPT Options |
Add-ins, what is listed there?

S

Sandy

Wow, you're patient! I have several printers installed for different
locations. If the default is not the printer where I am at the moment, I
change it so it is. However, I will check to see if the problem resolves by
changing the default before I open PowerPoint. More to come, Sandy

If what Echo prescribed does not work, then I'm all out of suggestions.

Man oh man oh Michael! I think the default change worked! I'll try the
Add-in thing, too, and get back to you. THANKS!

Contact Manager is active. There are four inactive add-ins....looks like
they are all related to Document Inspectors. No document or disabled
application add-ins. By the way, I do not use Contact Manager so I could
easily disable it.

Well, you might try it. I'm not aware of issues with that one, but you never
know.

Did the default printer driver change fix it?
