I downloaded a password protected .pps file. When I try to open it on one
laptop (Win2000 SP4 – PowerPoint 2002 SP3) it gives me the option to
[read-only], when I try to open it on another laptop (Win XP Prof. 2002 SP2
with the same version of PP) it does not give me that option and I can not
open the file..!

Any suggestions

Hi All,

I have the same problem.

A password protected PowerPoint file can't open with "Read Only" option.
My PC is using roaming profile, it won't show the Read Only button.
If my other PC that is using local profile, it will show the Read ONly button.

Both PC have the same Office 2003 with latest service pack applied.

Any ideal or is it a bug in Office system. I have tried with the PowerPoint
viewer 2007. Same result happens.

Can Microsoft fix the bugs.

Try installing Arial Black font on the problem computer. (Just copy it over
from the "good" computer.)

I was thinking you might not need the "read only" button if the Arial Black
thing worked.

I don't have any ideas. I will say that I've seen this issue before, but I
don't know what caused it. And IIRC, it eventually righted itself -- again,
no clue why. Have you rebooted?
