PP crash when loading dcr embedded presentation

Dear All,

I have this problem after installing the latest shockwave player
11.0... I am able to embed a .dcr file and play it right away and save
it safely. But if I want to open the file a second time, PP 2003
crashes (XP SP2 with all the latest updates). There was no such
problem before and i am able to play the same .dcr file in IE and
firefox with the currect shockwave player 11.0.. So i am sure this is
not a registration problem and I do have the proper file name inserted
in the SRC field. Does anyone have a clue what should I try to get rid
of this problem?

Do I need to add anything except for the file name in the properties
window to ensure i can open the PP presentation after saving it with
an embedded .DCR file?

Thanks in anticipation,
YC

Here is some more information about this problem:

I have tried to repair powerpoint from within the installer saved in
the same computer when PP was first installed, thinking that PP may be
corrupted somehow. I did not do any special selection, but just go
through control panel add/delete programs and usual procedure. It was
successful but the result did not make any difference. PP still
crashes.

The problem is I couldn't remember the version of the shockwave plyer
I had used before as it was used for a long time until recently I
decided to embed this dcr file. It worked but had the same annoying
problem that it can be played only once as reported on various forums
by many others. So i thought i might get the latest version. Obviously
Adobe was not smarter than Macromedia...

Another clue. PP was sending a report during the crash. I can view the
report which contains info about some 94 .dll and a thread of a lot of
unknow machine languages (i guess, as they meant nothing to me). I
couldn't save the report as it disappears after being sent to a MS
server.

There was another thread in this forum about a year ago saying that
the Adobe shockwave player was mainly built for web browser (this
seems correct as I can still play the dcr file within IE or firefox),
but not for powerpoint. Does this mean we should not install the
latest Adobe shockwave player if we want to play dcr file in PP?

BTW, i can embed flash swf file and play as many times as i want with
the latest Adobe version. Now and before. But why not shockwave
player?

Any Adobe guru in this forum?

OK. The problem is solved after I uninstall Adobe shockwave 11 and go
back to 10.2... I did try a clean installation of shockwave 11 again
and the problem comes back... So my experience tells that better to
stay with 10.2 if you want to use dcr files in PP.

I still have the old problem of not being able to play the dcr file a
second time unless I close the PP and reload it. Would like to know if
anyone has a solution...
