Hi,

I have the full version of Office power point 2003, however for some
reasons, I couldn't open ppt with the full version but with the Power point
viewer.... Why is that?? and how can I fix it?? because I want to print a
handout of the PPT, but the powerpoint viewer doesn't support that

Thanks!

You need to change the file association form the PowerPoint viewer to your
PowerPoint program. the easiest way to do this is to find any .ppt file and
right click on it select properties, and under opens with select Microsoft
Office PowerPoint

Is it that the file opens in the viewer when you doubleclick it or that
PowerPoint itself won't open it (e.g. via File, Open) and complains or doesn't
show the slides or something?

If the former, then ... what Michael said.

If the latter, choose Help, Check for Updates and let it install whatever fixes
it needs.

when I open it with the full version, it will come out a message like "
missing part of the files". But it works just fine with Power Point viewer.
Also, I think the power point is published by a Mac user..does it make a
difference?

What Echo said. And to add a bit, starting with PPT2003, PowerPoint is a lot more
particular about what it'll open; anything that looks like corrupt data (ie, that
might be a virus or similar "badware" attempt of some sort) gets shut down. It may
not display some slides, or it may refuse to open the presentation at all.

Since the Viewer is a lot more limited in what it can do (no macros, no editing, no
messing with the file system) MS doesn't have to restrict it quite so much. That's
my guess as to why a file might open in one and not the other.

As to the "missing part of file" message ... how did the file get to your computer?
If the user saved to removable storage (a removable drive or a USB thumbdrive or the
like) and didn't properly eject the drive, the file may not have been fully written
and may in fact be corrupt.

Your file opens in the PPT Viewer, but won't open in PPT?

I suppose it's possible the file really is corrupt, then, and you can't get
anything back, but usually if you can open it in the Viewer, then you can
salvage *something.*

Sigh.

Yes, I realize the viewer only lets you see the slide show, but not edit it.
I was just saying that, usually, if the Viewer lets you *see* the file,
usually you can salvage something from the file that PPT itself, not the
Viewer, can read.

And, as I posted in the other thread you're participating in, if you haven't
already, to recover your file, you need to try all the things listed in this
