i am trying to get the font larger in the author's "note" in the normal view.
i know that i can change it by going to "view" "note page" and enlarging it
there, but it does not enlarge in the normal view. i am getting older and
the eye sight is not what it once was and i need the author's notes larger to
be able to read better.

No problem:

Choose View, Toolbars and put a check next to Outlining.

On the far right of the toolbar, there's an A/A icon whose tooltip is Show
Formatting. Click that.

Now the notes text will take on whatever font/size/etc you assign the notes text
placeholder on the Notes Master.

Oooh ... just learned this one (thanks for asking):

Whether Show Formatting is on or off, you can click in the Notes pane then use
Control + ScrollWheel (if you have a mouse with a scroll wheel) to change the
zoom level.

The regular View, Zoom tool has the same effect, as does the zoom in/out tool on
our free PPTools StarterSet toolbar (http://www.pptools.com/starterset/)

Thanks - this works great. The only thing is that on my desk top (PP2002
SR3), the icon was not there so I had to insert it by going to 'tools'
'customize' 'commands' 'outlining' and then pulling the 'show formatting'
icon onto the existing tool bar. However, on my laptop (PP2002), the icon
was already there.

Again, thanks

One thing: In my case, at least, this only works if you make sure to
Go to the 'Set Up' tab.
Turn OFF 'Play Narrations'.

Mac OS 10.7.5
PowerPoint 2011
