PowerPoint 2007 - unable to apply change to the Master Slide

I have read the other posts on Master Slides and have reached critical mass
as far as frustration goes! I have gotten a new presentation to edit and fix
before being taught. I wanted to make a correction to the slide number as
there was a spelling error. It is a box that needs to change on every slide
as slide numbers but it has text in it as well that will not change. We have
over 20 courses that we teach and by putting the course name in the slide
number it helps when they hand me a page from one presentation to add to
another. I don't have to spend hours looking for the info. He used the
slide number option when building it and i can edit it - it will not apply to
the pages in the document. When i go to Master Layout - slide number is
checked but grayed out and i can't uncheck or change it. The error is on all
pages currently. I have gone to every place talked about in the previous
posts and am unable to make any of them work. There are over 200 slides and
i really don't want to hand edit all of them!! Thank you - sorry for the
rant but my issues with 2007 ppt are legion right now!

Try this:

Correct spelling on the Master and all layouts affected

In normal view

Insert > SlideNumber > Untick Slide Number > Apply to All
Insert > Slide Number again > Tick > Apply to All

Does that work?

Well - it was worth a try but it didn't work. Thanks for the help though!
