Sorry for a long response but I also get that message under a very specific
condition involving PPT 2000 or XP (2002) with embedded or linked SWF's. It
happens when I save the PPT on a PC using Vista, then try to open it on a PC
running XP. Updating Flash player does no good. One solution I found was to
open the file in XP, go to each slide with an SWF, insert duplicate slide
then delete the original. After doing that with all slides containing SWF's,
resave and the presentation runs correctly but I have no idea why.
Alternatively, delete the slides with SWF's, insert new slides and reinsert
the SWF's. Interestingly, PPT's with SWF's saved in XP run fine on the Vista
PC. Since all my files are for work, where we only use XP, I now only use XP
at home too and save myself the aggravation of the errors. I hope one of the
MVP's here has a real solution but, in the meantime, maybe those steps will
help you track down the problem. I'll watch this thread for other answers
too because I'd love to go back to using my Vista PC.
