Powerpoint 2000 files growing in size

Andibevan

Hi All,

I am using Powerpoint 2000 and have a presentation of about 24 pages. Our
work standard is to save files in the format "PowerPoint 97-2000 & 95
Presentation (*.ppt)". When my presentation is saved as a standard
"Presentation (*.ppt)" file it is about 3.5mb but when saved as our work's
standard the size is 16mb - Does anybody have an explanation for this or any
guidance on what causes this large size increase?

My presentation includes numerous embedded objects including a number of
excel workbooks.

Thanks in advance

Andi

The "&95" part de-activates PowerPoint's compression algorisms (which are
not half bad). It is kinda like the difference between a JPG and a BMP.
I'd talk to the folks at work and see who really needs the "& 95" part.

Hi Andi,

is there anyone, who is still using PowerPoint 95, you have to share files
with? I can't imagine, that there's someone, who still uses 10 years old
software. If there's no one using this old version, there's no reason to
use it for saving. Just save your files in standard PPT-format and they'll
be fairly small.

The reason for this: Microsoft changed their file format for PowerPoint in
97. If you use "PowerPoint 97-2000 & 95 Presentation", you save the
information in the very old and the current format, thus more than doubling
your file size.
