post code bar on envelopes

W

weekend

older Word versions had an option to print a post code bar on envelopes. Word
2007 doesn't. Is there any way to add a post code bar to envelopes with the
2007 version?

See "The POSTNET bar code that Word generates no longer qualifies for USPS
bulk mailing discounts" at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=897290 for an
explanation of why this feature is no longer included in the Envelopes and
Labels dialog. You can still insert the bar code as a field (Insert | Quick
Parts | Field).

I'm not doing a bulk mailing--just one envelope. I don't want a bulk discount.
Is there any way of adding the postal delivery bar code in Word 2007 that
used to be available in Word 2003?

The field that used to be available via the envelope dialog is still
available from Insert > Documents Parts > Field. You can add an envelope to
a document then add the field, or you can use the appropriate envelope
template that you can download from my web site, which has the field
included, to create envelopes. Whether it is worth doing so is another
matter entirely.

As Graham says, there is a way to do it, but there is absolutely no point in
doing it. The USPS is going to add another (correct) bar code anyway.
