Possible to transfer Vista?

Well, i just bought a new computer with Vista Home Premium, and i already own
a Windos XP, and my questions is, is it possible to transfer my Vista to my
XP for free? I dont want to go out a buy Vista, that so expensive! So, can i
transfer it over? If so, how? Thanks Guys/Gals.

You can try.............did you get a Vista CD?? or did you only get a
"recovery CD or Partition"???????????????
I doubt if you would succeed because even if you received a CD it most
likely is an OEM version that will only work on that new system.

The license for that copy of Vista Home Premium is restricted to the machine
it came with. If you got a DVD with Vista on it (not a restore CD or backup
image on the system). You could buy an additional license from Amazon.com
and possibly use the DVD to install it on your XP machine though. But the
current license is tied to the machine.

You want to use the license for Vista on two different computers. NO! You
can't do that. You need a separate copy of Vista for each computer.

Your question is not clear. What do you mean "is it possible to transfer my
Vista to my XP for free"? There is no such thing as transferring one OS to
another. Do you mean you have another computer with XP on it and you want
to install Vista on that computer in addition to having Vista on the new
computer?

If that's the question, the answer is no. The rule is and has been, one
installation, one license. Also the copy of Vista that came with the new
computer is an OEM copy. By it's license it's tied to that computer and
cannot be moved to a different computer.

If that isn't your question, then please be more clear.

You're not being clear. Are you saying you have another PC/laptop that has
XP on it, and you want to upgrade that machine to Vista for "free"? Sorry
dude. No can do. If you don't want to spend $160 for Vista, I highly
recommend scouring Ebay for an upgrade disk. I got one for about $80. Watch
out for the OEM versions, as yes, they are cheaper, but limited only to the
pc you install it on.

As you probably know, with Microsoft operating systems the rule is: One
license for one computer. Microsoft does not authorize one copy of Vista to
be used on more than one computer.

Having said that, and if you are willing to use that copy only on your XP
machine and NOT on your new machine (or any other machine), then it MIGHT
work. I've seen it happen. However, as others have already mentioned, an OEM
version of Vista is likely to NOT work on a different machine. So your best
bet is to buy an Upgrade copy of Vista for your XP machine. BEFORE doing
that, though, run the Microsoft Vista compatibility program on it first.
Your old machine may or may not have the capability or power to run Vista.
