Possible damaged NTLDR file

Computer keeps shutting off and restarting. I think its a damaged NTLDR
file. When I boot to the Windows CD, it shuts down right when it says
starting Windows. How can I get to the recovery console to replace the NTLDR
file? Or to run chkdisk?

Unless you have the recovery console installed,
you get to it by booting with your XP cd.

Since you are unable to do that, it means the problem is not with NTLDR,
probably a H/W problem

I sugggest running a RAM test

Can you please post a complete copy of the Stop Error report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing the F8
key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on
system failure. Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure.
Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

What is your computer make and model?

What exactly do you have by way of a Windows XP CD?

Try booting with only keyboard, mouse and monitor connected.

Hope this helps.
