popups continue despite efforts

Thank you, Art. Your intro to Trend Micro's tools helped quite well --
it found eight BKDR_SANDBOX.A infested files.

You're welcome. Glad it helped.
I also like your pictures... Ahhh, simpler days those were, eh? When
I was sixteen it was 1980 and I was driving a '69 Cutlass ;^)

Far simpler in the fifties. Raising kids during the sixties and
seventies wasn't any picnic though. I don't recommend it :)

Ad-aware has never caused anything like this on any computer I've
ever run it on. This may be related to your coolweb infestation,
though. Some coolweb variants will actually disable Ad-aware when you
load it into memory. There is a "stealth" program for Ad-aware, but
I'm having trouble finding the url for the it. What it does is
stealths Ad-aware so that it can run. Maybe someone else here can
come up with the url, if not, I'll check at work tomorrow as I know I
have it there.

Please be careful using Sys-Up by Trend Micro. I downloaded and ran it last
night, and it found and deleted 21 programs/files from my system that it
claimed were viruses. They were not viruses, and it didn't give an option
to delete or not before they were deleted. It also did not give a listing
of what was deleted. It just told me that 21 items were deleted. I had to
use Windows System Restore to get my programs/files back.

You can and should select initially to scan without delete. It's
always inadvisable to allow any scanner to delete or clean until you
assess the situation.

I chose scan without delete just in habit (e.g. proceed cautiously --
see what a program is going to do before you let it go unleashed,
especially when it's the first time said program is used).

Also, a log was generated which listed exactly what was removed.
