Popups coming from IE

I am on AOL v 9.0 and I cannot control popups that come
from Internet Explorer ("I Hate Pop-ups" "Top searches on
the Web" etc) They take up the whole screen, and I have
to CTL-ALT-DEL end the task to delete them. The
frequency is about one or two a minute and makes my life
miserable on the web.
Incredibly, AOL says to disable all the scripting
features in the AOL browser to get rid of them. This
solution is unacceptible since it also prevent viewing of
many webpages! Help!
