Populate a text box

Hi yall,
2 questions:
1/
I want to design a data entry form which doesn't create a record until the
user clicks a "save" button. It will be used by quite a lot of users at the
same time and I want to avoid conflicts in the assignment of the autonumber.
How do I do this? I think a bunch of unbound controls then some code in the
OnClick event of the button but I'm not sure how to create a record and
populate the fields in VB.
2/
The table that will be updated contains fields like CustomerNumber (a
numeric key only) but the descriptions are in another table called
customers. On the form I can create a combo box on the key field with 2
columns so the user can select a customer name but populate a customer
number into the field. I want to have an unbound text box next to the
CustomerNumber combo which will display the description from the other table
after update. What do I need in the afterupdate event of the combo?

Any assist appreciated.

My second question is already answered below in the message entitled
"Look-up Fields (I think!)". It must be a candidate for FAQ status.
