pop3 smtp settings muddle

G

Geoff

We have a user with an XP pro machine on which he and his wife have
acccounts. Each account has Outlook Express setup with different incoming and
outgoing mailservers.

All this has been in place for some time and worked perfectly well. Over the
christmas break the user has been loading software and generally messsing
about. This has resulted in a strange situation.

Incoming mail is working perfectly but outgoing mail is not being sent and
the error shown states that OE is trying to log onto the smtp server using
the correct server name but the using the incoming pop3 servers username.
Seperate authentication information is correrctly added for the smtp server
but it's being partially ignored?

We have deleted and recreated the account and double checked the settings
which are correct.

Has anyone seen this before? Or know how to fix it?

Thanks

Geoff

Could one of the new software be an antivirus/antispam with email scanning?
If that is correct, take a look at the antivirus software settings. Disable
email scanning option. If that doesn't solve it, go to Add/Remove Programs
and uninstall email scanning option.

Try changing outgoing port to 587 .

Post the complete error message(s) you're getting.

Disable email scanning (outgoing and incoming) by your anti-virus
application. It provides no additional protection and it's probably causing
the behavior.

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email

PS: You prolly will have to reconfigure the Outgoing mailserver manually
after disabling email scanning.
