Pop ups

For the last couple of days I have been plagued by pop-up ads which are
somehow getting past my pop-up stopper . I ran AVG anti-virus, ad-aware and
spybot to no avail. Can anyone advise me what to do next as I am thinking
there must be some virus/trojan lurking in my computer that is causing this.
Also my computer is slower, which seems suspicious.
Thanks

What type of pop-ups? Are they messages or actual browser launches?

One cause of a suddenly slow computer is it has been compromised and
is busy relaying spam. Quite common on the machines of broadband users
without firewalls. Is it slow only when you are online?

Check for the number of bytes *sent* during this time.

Try the a² (a-squared) anti-trojan program.

Yikes! With todays Anti-spam laws and ISP assuming guilty till proven
innocent, this could be a very bad situation. Turn on those
firewalls!

Browser launches. Ads for various companies and websites, but at the bottom
of each it says "This ad is not brought to you or sponsored by the Web
site(s) you are viewing, click for more details", which I am wary of doing!

Thanks for your help. For some reason I couldn't get the a² program to
download, but after battling with computer for several hours last night I
think I have got rid of the problem (not sure how) and all seems ok now.

Popup Stopper works like a charm for IE. FF has its own.
