Pop-ups/spybots deleted my desktop wallpaper

Even tho i have run Lavasoft's AdAware 6.0 and Spybot Seek&Destroy,
some sort of popup virus/spybot has deleted my Desktop desktop.html
wallpaper, my Windows Explorer File Manager is slow, if not crashing,
and Internet Explorer now starts up automatically at various times
with pop-ups and such. Is there anything out there that will fix this?
I have XP Pro, is it safe to delete IExplorer and reload another
copy?
Thanks
Chumley

There is no such file as desktop.html. Not sure what you mean here.

File manager is from windows 3.1. If you mean windows explorer, what's the
error messages, if any?

You cannot delete iexplore.exe. It's part of windows. You can
reinstall/repair it, but I think you need to try this first:
You've got spyware, adware, a trojan, a search engine hijacker, or a home
page hijacker.

Run these tools weekly
Spybot -- http://www.safer-networking.org/
Ad-aware -- http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

CWShredder: http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe

You cannot repair IE from add/remove programs by default in xp. That option
may be available if you did an upgrade install from win9x, but other than
that, you can't repair IE that way.

Iexplore = IE
Iexplorer = spyware

I have the same problem. My desktop is overlayed with an off-white page that blinks.

I have run: cwshredder, hijackthis, spybot & adaware. No flags went up in Norton Internet Security; Antivirus shows all clean; System restore failed.
