How do I stop these gray pop up blocks on Windows Xp that
are sent thru the messenger service? I have updated Xp
everytime the updates become avaiable. Still this doesn't
stop them. I have also installed a popup blocker thru my
ISP still no luck . Any ideas.

Thanks

Note:

You can disable the Messenger Service in Windows XP. However, when
you disable the messenger service, it is no longer available for receiving
legitimate messages, such as administrative alerts and notifications
from antivirus programs or firewall failures and others.

If you wish to solve your pop-up problems once and for
all, consider purchasing and installing a third-party program
designed to do just that:

Although it will stop the symptoms of the problem, this is not the right
tack.

The OP needs a firewall. 'Messenger spam', is not in itself harmful, but is
symptomatic of a larger problem - the computer has ports open from the
Internet.

You can disable the Messenger service, but that is unwise as a solution as
you'll still have the underlying problem that caused you to get the messages
in the first place - consider the messages a useful warning that you have no
protection from the Internet. This is all too important now, given the
recent rash of RPC worms....

For a standalone machine, see www.sygate.com for a free personal firewall,
or if using Windows XP, you can enable the built-in internet connection
firewall (ICF).

See http://securityadmin.info/faq.htm for more info.
