POP UP WINDOW BLOCKED

Dan M.

My problem is that Microsoft is blocking a pop up window
and as a result is not allowing me to go to my work
intranet site. I have shut down Norton System
Works and Zone Alarm (firewall); problem still happens.
the status bar (bottom left of screen) delivers me the
message as well as a message ("Pop-up window was blocked")
in the middle of the screen displayed by INTERNET
EXPLORER (it is not delivered via
either Norton or ZoneAlarm). any thoughts on this
problem? i have used this computer for 6 months with
Norton and ZoneAlarm and been able to access my firms
secure website remotely. The only change recently was my
installing a LINKSYS wireless network this week.
thoughts on what would be telling me in the status bar
and message that "A pop-up window was blocked"? Thank
you. Dan

Unless you installed SP2 (which is still in Beta testing) then your Popup
Blocker isn't Windows XP.
Many adware toolbars have built-in popup blockers with them such as the
Starware toolbar or the Google toolbar. You can disable the feature through
the toolbar properties or uninstall the toolbar all together through
add/remove programs.
You can't add/remove *some* toolbars this way however so, if the above
doesn't work, you'll need to run AdAware & Spybot S&D to get rid of them:

AdAware: www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Spybot S & D: www.safer-networking.org/

hmmm...think the only tool microsoft uses in order to block pop ups is the
msn toolbar. do you have that? if you do, then there must be an option to
allow specific sites' pop ups.

same goes with the google toolbar.

They do - but if you need a quick fix, hold the CTR button down on your
keyboard when you access the web site - this will allow pop-ups on that site
(not permanent mind you). Usually there is a IE icon that will allow you to
specify if the site you are access allows pop-ups - this makes the site
permanently capable.

Most popup blockers have the option to hold either the control key or the
shift key down to allow the popup. Try that once. If you're getting the
message that "a popup was blocked" then you obviously have some type of
popup blocker installed.

Many thanks for this "quick fix". Holding down the CTRL
button worked. Does that tell us what the problem is --
i.e. how to fix the problem? also, how do i find the IE
icon to specify which sites to allow pop ups? thank
you. dan

Not really, doesn't tell you much at all since most popup blockers use the
CTRL button as an override.
But it does give you a quick fix anyway :)

It depends what your pop up stopper is. What toolbar have you installed?
Go to their website and RTFM.
