Pop-up description for folder and desktop items window

This window is checked to open under folder options. It will not open using
Windows explorer with a JPEG file. It will open with NEF files and on any
desktop icon or folder.

Dell suggested setting up a new user account, and it works with the new
account. This window shows file size, camera used, date photo taken etc. and
I use this all the time. I now have to Right click the JPEG>Properties to
find the file information. Any suggestions short of a Windows re-install?

Don,
Not sure what you mean by "This window is checked to open under folder
options". I think you are trying to open jpg files using Explorer. It that
correct?

What might've happened is that the file association might've gotten changed
to use another program to open all of your jpg's. You can fix it by following
these steps in order:

1)Point the mouse to the file that you would like to open and Right-click on
it.
2)Select "Open with..." and wait for the list to appear.
3)Select "Choose Program" and another list will appear in a window.
4)There will be a box near the bottom that says "Always use this
program...". Place a checkmark in that box.
5)Move the pointer up and click on "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" or
"Windows Explorer" (or WHICHEVER PROGRAM you wish to use to open those kinds
of files from now on).
6)Click "OK" and from then on, all files of that particular type will use
the Program you selected above to open it.

Hope that's some help. Let us know.

Since it works in the new account, copy the contents of the old profile
to the new, then delete the old. If you really want the account to have
the same name, then recreate the old account, copy the contents back,
and then delete that account you don't want.

Are you saying you get no tip when hovering over a .jpg? Or just the basic file info & not
image-specific info?

That is correct, I get no tip, file info, pot-up window, basic information
of any kind. If the image is a NEFF, they I get a normal tip, with all file
information. Thanks for working on this with me.

My first sentence refers to options as follows: In opening any folder on
the desktop, follow these steps under the Menu bar. Tools>Folder Options>View
tab>Last box on the list (checked in my case) for "Pop-up description for
folder and desktop items". I am familiar with "Open With". It is the window
that should appear when you hover the cursor over the jpeg image icon.
Thanks.

This may be my best option to solve the problem. I have never had more than
one user account, and I will have to learn how files are handled between the
two. The links look good. Thanks

You can try the following -- it fixes a lot of image=related problems:

Start -> Run -> type: regsvr32 shimgvw.dll
