pop and smtp servers

We use a webmail client for email. Whether we use oulook or outlook express
as our desktop interface to view our email; every 3-4 months for some reason
the pop and smtp server configuration is automatically changed.

Once this happens, we can't send or receive emails.

We have to manually go in and reconfigure our email servers.

I'm not sure if this is happening everytime Microsoft uploads automatic
updates or if some sort of 'hacker program' is getting through.

Outlook 2003 is the version and Windows XP is our operating system.

Automatically changed to what?

What are they changing to? If it's something like 127.0.0.1 or "localhost"
then you may want to look at your antivirus software and disable any email
integration.

Hi, you know what, i would like to answer this, but my co-worker went in and
reset the servers again so I didn't write it down. It's happened 4 times in
the last year and I never thought to write down the changed server name.

could it be the anti-virus, if it happens about 4-6 times a year. i was
thinking that it was caused by automatic microsoft downloads. I wish I wrote
down the changes that were made to the pop and smtp servers. I figured
possibly someone else was experiencing the same problems.
Thanks though, I will check the virus scan..... especially since they have
norton.
