Thanks! - this worked for the image toolbar. Got any tips for the other
examples?

Hello,

When I move my mouse pointer across the screen when I'm in Internet
Explorer, whenever the mouse pointer moves across a picture, different things
happen, all of which are annoying. For example, if it's just a picture, a
small popup toolbar appears next to the pointer/cursor. This toolbar is like
a mini-photo toolbar, with a small save icon, etc. Other time, when the
cursor moves over a link, a small descriptive popup appears next to the
cursor describing what the link is about. Other situations happen when the
cursor moves over a link which really consists of a drop down list - the
drop-diwn list automitally appears. All of these situations are very
annoying - is there any way to get rid of all these pointer/cursor
auto-popups?

Thanks

No, I am afraid I don't.
The pop ups look like adware or spyware from your description and I
don't follow what you mean on the third. Perhaps an example or two?

Hi Alan,

I don't think the second example is spyware, as this appears to be a normal
function (a small descriptive popup). I'd still like to get rid of it.
Regarding the 3rd situation, here's an example. On this page, if I move the
cursor over the far left column links, a listing appears to the right of the
small black arrow - I'm not sure if the correct description of this is a
popup. For example, if I move my cursor above "Internet Explorer 6," then a
small box appears to the right of the arrow with "Internet Explorer 6
General" and just below that, "Internet Explorer 6 Setup."

Tom,

I see no popups for links, so perhaps we are talking at
cross-purposes.
(Unless you are talking about a link in an explorer bar as you get if
you press the Favorites button)

I wish you had given me an URL for an example of the third. I don't
use that quirky web interface you are using, so "this page" means
nothing to me in a proper newsreader. OK, I have navigated to the
newsgroup in the web interface. I don't see descriptive popups in one
computer but I do in the next, so it may be dependent on your
operating system. It does not appear to be a function of IE.
