PnP mouse drivers gone

I had put my laptop into hibernation with my basic optical mouse plugged in.
When I took the computer out of hibernation, the mouse lit up but did not
work. The add new hardware wizard also popped up. Now windows doesn't
recognize the mouse anymore, and it doesn't show up in the control pannel or
the device mamager. It did not come with a driver CD and I cannot find
drivers online. I also tried the system file checker, windows pdate, using
the add hardware wizard and searching the system32 folder, and another PnP
optical mouse and a different USB port, and nothing worked. Any suggestions?

A failure of 1 usb port often means that a pair has gone out. Can you
go back to a restore point before this happened?
