Plug n Play wont detect monitor

My new Benq wide screen monitor is not detected by XP. Display
Properties only shows default monitor and the resolution options are
only for normal width screens. There is no options under Display
Properties or in Device Manager to load or update display drivers.

How do I get XP to recognise the new screen.

The monitor didn't come with a CD?

Insert the CD and follow the instructions.

Do you have the correct driver for your video adapter, check the
manufacturers web site for updates. Did you get an .inf file/CD from
Benq for the moniter? If so, install it.

You do not give any specification.
This is a hardware issue.
I do not think that you will get satisfactory results without a high end video card.

Instructions that came with the monitor are no help. They say that in
Display/Properties/Settings to select Plug & Play monitor and install
driver. However, there is only Default monitor shown and there is no
Driver button anywhere.

The driver files include a .inf file but right clicking it and
selecting install does nothing. There is no setup or install files in
the CD.

Motherboard is a Gigabyte 7VM400M-RZ. The Gigabyte specs say that it
has a UniChrome graphics engine. There is no mention of a display
adapter in the Device Manager screen so there is no option to change
the driver.

If memory serves me correctly:

Log on as an administrator; select properties when you right click on My
Computer (not desk top); look at driver tab; do the obvious.

Doesn't help. See my previous postings.
