Plotting a 3 D curve

Hi Guys,

i was wondering if there is any way to plot a 3D curve using excel.

basically i have a table (row and column) of values that i want to b
treated as one data series. excel seems to only accept data serie
either in row or column :(

e.g

z\x |0.5 0.6 0.7 0.8
0.5 | 1 2 3 4
0.6 | 2 3 4 5
0.7 | 3 4 5 6
0.8 | 4 5 6 7

the integers are the Y-axis value.

if i select 3D surface chart, excel just treat the table of values as
different series rather than one.

any help would be much appreciated.

cheers,

dipsy

You can't get a "true" 3D chart in Excel, but you can get a contour or
surface chart the way your data is laid out. You need a set of X values
and of Z values, arranged by row and column, with a single Y value at
every cell in the grid defined by the X and Z arrays. Using the data as
shown, the X and Z will be along the axes on the base of the chart, and
the integer Y values will be the height from the base.

Clear the cell at the intersection of the first row and first column
(where you show "z\x"). The blank cell tells Excel to use the first row
and column for X and Z. Select the entire range, or a single cell in
the range (Excel will guess at the boundaries of your data), and run the
Chart Wizard. In step 1 select one of the Surface chart options, then
continue through the wizard.
