Please wait...... (New Thread)

I posted this to the help and support group but haven't received any
advise that works. Perhaps someone in this group can help:

Right after the POST and just before I see the Logon screen, I get a
light blue screen and the words "Please Wait......" appear at the top
left of the screen. The '.' (periods) after the word 'wait' continue
one by one until they stop and the Logon continues. Does anyone know
why this might happen and what I can do about it? Thank you.

Please learn to Cross-Post and NOT Multi-Post.

If you had Cross-Posted this query in the first place your ONE post would be in BOTH news
groups.

Certain applications must perform their work before XP loads
drivers and the desktop is started. Usually you'll see this screen
on things like a boot time/off-line defrag using Perfect Disk or
Diskeeper. However those program show status progress and
not just the ......I'd investigate what is starting at boot and also
take a look at the System Event Log.

That screen appears when a task has been scheduled by Windows (or you) such
as a chkdsk on the system volume or a boot time defrag. However you should
see text relating to the task. It sounds like Windows is waiting for a task
of some sort to finish before proceeding with start up.

Totally agree. However, I didn't think of it when I first posted the
query. In addition, I have found that many people don't like
cross-posting. I just can't seem to win!! David, I respect you very
much - but I can't have it both ways. I always try to be careful how
and where I post - but I guess I can't please everyone. I'm always
open to suggestions though.

Thos who don't like X-posting are those who either don't know better or don't like excessive
X-posting.

The advantages of X-posting is that replies made go to all X-Posted groups and all benefit.

X-Posting is just more effective in getting responses.

Believe me, I have posted to one group and then thought "I should have also posted to group
X" and I too have Multi-Posted :-(

Yes, I agree. I always thought that cross posting was more efficient
if you could expect a wider "audience" that might have good responses.
Thanks.........

Nothing wrong with cross-posting IMO.

Those of us with real news readers like Forte Agent can use our crosspost
management preferences to weed out cross posts and receive just one post from
among the several or have all but one marked as read.

It is the Multi-posting that is the time and effort waster.

BTW.........how do you find Agent 4.2?

I tried 3.0 or whatever the version was and did not like the interface.

I've stuck with 2.0 and satisfied with it.

Sorry, but I haven't used any other versions so have nothing to compare
it to. Seems OK to me.
