'Please setup PC error'

As a complete novice, I am having no end of trouble with a game I downloaded for my son - Jewel Quest. Whenever I start it up I get a message in a white rectangle in the middle of the screen saying 'Please setup PC at 1024 x 768 60H'. It is set up that way. I have been on RealOne Arcade and for the last five days have been installing, uninstalling, reinstalling and downloading all sorts of new stuff like DirectX9.0C plus video driver cards, or something. The upshot is that the problem still exists and RealOne appear to have given up judging by the last message I received. Anyone got any ideas?

Hi Paul,

Lets run a diagnostic of your system to see if we can pinpoint the problem.

In order to Create a dxdiag.txt file: Click Start / Run / type: DXDIAG
Click the "Test" buttons in the Display, Sound, Music & Network Tabs;
Afterwards click the "Save All Information..." button in the bottom row.

To post the DX diagnostic information, open the file in notepad, click Edit
/ Select All / Copy and then Paste the data into your post using Ctrl+V. If
you use Outlook Express Click Insert / File Attachment. I hope this helps!

Hi Jimmy, thanks for your help. Went through the test procedure, which is exactly what Real One asked me to do before they gave up, but seem to have a problem opening file. Get a message saying 'Notepad.exe is needed to open this file'. It appears that I don't have notepad.exe. Any idea how I get it?

Hi Paul,

Notepad.exe is part of Windows XP.

If your installation of Windows cannot find Notepad then it's
very possible that you have been hit hard with a virus and as
a result your current installation is unstable.

I suggest a clean install of Windows XP, and be very careful
of what you download online.

Hi Jimmy, thanks for your help. Went through the test procedure, which is exactly what Real One
asked me to do before they gave up, but seem to have a problem opening file. Get a message saying
'Notepad.exe is needed to open this file'. It appears that I don't have notepad.exe. Any idea how I

the path to notepad.exe is:
c:/windows/notepad.exe

if the file is not there...insert your Windows XP CD,
then goto the /i386 folder on the CD and find:
notepad.ex_
copy that file to C:
(you can drag and drop or right click and copy/paste)
now open a command prompt (one in start/programs/accessories)
expand notepad.ex_ notepad.exe
now copy that notepad.exe to c:/windows and to c:/windows/system32
then delete the notepad.ex_ and notepad.exe from the C: location.

now try again.

If you had notepad.exe, it may have been replaced by another
file with the same name (if so run a virus check on the file).
