Please please please help me

Im at the end of my rope.
Im on Comcast internet. using the USB feature on the
Motorola 5120 Surfboard external.
I want to use the ethernet port. Ive uninstalled the usb
drivers. Shut everything down. Connect the ethernet using
a cat 5 cable, turn everything on, modem is undetected.
When I ipconfig at a CMD dos promt I get "Media
state.............media: disconnected"
Ive replaced the modem, the cables, the ethernet card.
Even hooked up a different computer and I still get the
same cmd prompt message. Please help me. Im gonna lose it

In Device Manager, does the ethernet port show as enabled or disabled?
Enable it if it's off.
