Please need help! When minimize a program doesn't show at toolbar!

Suddenly today I have this problem.
When I start a program, everything is OK.
But if I minimize it, it doesn't appear at the bottom toolbar!
What is wrong and how to fix it?

I'm after the opposite effect. I have a program which puts a small clock
on my desktop, but it also has an entry in the taskbar. I'd like to be
able to remove that entry from the taskbar, but leaving the program
running. The actual "program" is a subtask of my Opera browser, so it's
not something simple like running the program as a service.

In my dreams, I'd be able to right click the entry in the taskbar, and
have a "hide" item in the context menu.
