Please help.

I have Windows XP home edition and yesterday the internet kept saying
"limited or no connectivity" even though all my other computers had internet
at the time. At first i thought it was the router and/or ethernet cable and
neither were the case. I decided to do system restore and that didnt work so
i looked on the internet and found that service pack 2 can cause this to
happen. I uninstalled service pack 2 and rebooted. When windows started
back up it took atleast 5min for it to come off of the "windows is no
starting up" screen. After that finally came up i found that multiple icons
were stacked on top of each other and the task bar is not visible. It is
almost like it is permenantly pulled down. When I try to pull it up nothing
happens and i cant get to anything. I used the task manager to find system
restore but it keeps saying "system restore is not able to protect your
computer please restart and run system restore again" so i do that and the
exact same thing comes up again. I dont want to reinstall it because it
deletes all restore points which renders it useless for me. Can someone
please tell me how to fix this. Thanks in advance for all your help!

It is very unlikely that Service Pack 2 caused your problems. Unfortunately,
there is no way for us to know what happened. We don't have enough
information and in your misguided attempt to fix things, you've made it
worse. I am not saying this to hurt your feelings, but there is no other
way to say it.

At this point you should back up your data and try a Repair Install. If the
Repair Install doesn't work, format the drive and do a Clean Install. Don't
connect to the Internet until you have Service Pack 2 installed, as well as
an antivirus.

The alternative is to take the machine to a professional computer repair
shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA) and have them take a look.

Thanks for your help. Microsofts website had a press release about service
pack 2 causing the limited connectivity message so thats where the service
pack 2 thing came in. What other information would you need to better
determine the problem? Thanks again for your help i really appreciate it.

I already told you what I think you should do. It is very unlikely that
anyone who can't see your computer can diagnose it accurately and tell you
what to do to fix it. If you don't want to try the Repair Install or the
Clean Install, I think you should have a professional look at it.
