media player 11. i can play dvd's on it if i insert them myself, but it wont
allow me to play downloaded videos. it keeps showing this error code:
C00D1199. i went to web help and it said this might be the codecs but when i
tried to download codecs from microsoft it said it was only compatable for
media player 10 and XP. i havent got a clue wot to do and im scared of

download the free divx codec from
www.divx.com

download the xvid codec from
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Koepi_XviD.htm

download real alternative from
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm

download quicktime alternative (unless you want to use iTunes, then download
iTunes that bundles the normal quicktime player)
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm

the above will handle 90 % of all videos...

for everything else download GOMPLAYER that will play almost anything you
can throw at it
www.gomplayer.com

hope this helps

sam you will need xvid for sure too.. as well as real alt and either
quicktime alt, or normal quicktime from apple in order to play even more
kinds of video

Why would you need both divx and xvid? Aren't those generally redundant
with each other?

I wouldn't generally recommend having two overlapping codecs like that.

Beacuse they are not overlapping? dah.....

People with Divx installed complain about burry -green screens when watchin
Xvid videos

And you are {MSFT}???? oh god.. . vista was made by morons!

What happens if you use the Xvid decoder and not the Divx decoder?
What happens if you use the FFDShow divx/xvid implementation?
What ensures that the right codec is chosen for the decode in question?
Have you / people complaining followed up with DivXNetworks?
What happens if you install a DivX codec update after you install Xvid?

No, I'm "Zach". I simply like solving problems and making people's lives
easier. Doesn't really hurt anybody, doesn't really get in your way. =)

Your answers are inline:
What happens if you use the Xvid decoder and not the Divx decoder?

The DIVX is version 6.bla bla, it is very good and should be used as the
divx decoder
What happens if you use the FFDShow divx/xvid implementation?

From my experience the combination I propose is the absolute best one
What ensures that the right codec is chosen for the decode in question?

nothing ensures anything.. especialy if you are using vista you dont know
what will hit you. :)
Have you / people complaining followed up with DivXNetworks?

Complaining? I complain about vista nothing else...
What happens if you install a DivX codec update after you install Xvid?

It still works of course...

Divx is not only a codec to play, the package also has the encoder (you just
missed the free holiday offer, I checked but its over) as well as a web
player,
that is much like the flash, they are trying to make their own propietery
format a "standard" for video content...

who will win out we will see...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that you installed
"libavcodec.dll" via some random codec installer. Did you? You might want
to see how your system performs with that codec removed.
