Please help.. im dramatically upgrading my Desktop

Hi, (please help!)

I have XP proffesional SP2 installed on my desktop, using an intel pentium
II processor. I am wanting to detach the hard drives and replace with a 250GB
hard drive, i also want to replace my old disk drive, my motherboard and
processor, i want to rplace with an intel pentium 4 Dual processor with a
motherboard with the right socket.

If i delete everything on the old hard drives and take them out of the
computer and install the new one, also at the same time installing the
processor, motherboard and disk drive.. then i would want to install XP using
my XP service disk to install it (would the computer recognize a disk in the
drive to load XP in DOS without an OP installed?) on the new hard drive and
then install everything once XP is up and running,

Is this all possible or are there other things i need to be doing to make
it all happen?

Thanks, i appreciate any input from anyone :D

This is certainly confused. Let's see if I have this right:

1. You are basically replacing your old computer with a new one.
2. You want to then do a clean install of Windows.
3. What do you mean by "service disk"? Is it a restore disk from an OEM
like Compaq, Sony, etc. or is it a real operating system disk?

You will need a real operating system disk to do a clean install of
Windows on your new computer. A restore disk will not work. Since you
are a student, you qualify for a reduced price; check with your
school's bookstore.

If this is not what you wanted to know, then please post back. Use
numbered or bulleted points to explain clearly what you are trying to
do and what you need to know.

Right,

1. yes practically but still keeping the power supply and grphics card etc.
as i already upgraded them
2. yes, but with a new hard drive in the pc without an OS would the computer
recognize a disk in the new disk drive while it boots in DOS?
3. its a Dell OS disk for reinstallation or upgrade, which i used to upgrade
this desktop.

There is no DOS involved. All XP CD's are bootable. Follow the
instructions in the links I already gave you to do a clean install.

Your Dell disk will not work since it is an OEM version and is tied to
the original hardware. It may also be BIOS-locked and installation will
fail when it can't find the Dell motherboard.

You need to purchase a full version of XP for the new install. As I
said, there is a large discount for students/teachers so check with
your school.

Right ok,

i dont have a dell motherboard anyway, the disk came with my dads new pc
which is a person made one, we used the dell XP disk as it had a windows
certificate on the case stating 2 CPU's, i upgraded my pc from 98, which was
too slow for the things i used the desktop for, so i used the dell XP disk to
upgrade and used the key to activate and it all went through, there is a max.
space of 30-35 GB, which i feel isn't enough and only a pentium 2 processor
so thats why im upgrading hardware, which is costing me and my dad £200. So,
we don't really want to pay for another XP installation disk if the 1 which i
used to upgrade from 98 worked, even though i didn't have a dell motherboard.

Is there a question in there?

Frankly, I didn't follow anything in your long stream-of-consciousness
post. Sentences, paragraphs, etc. are Good Things.

Apparently you want to know if you can use your current XP installation
cd and/or key. Since I can't follow what you are saying, all I can
suggest is that you try it. If it does, great. If not, then oh well.
You can buy a new version of XP or install one of the free operating
systems such as Linux or FreeBSD.

Sorry, these things just rather upset me lol,

Right,
- I don't have a dell motherboard, yet i upgraded from 98 to xp using the XP
installation disk.

- I am only upgrading the hardware as my pc is slow, yet if i need to
purchase a new key/XP installation package would irratate me greatly. Do you
think it would work for a clean installation as i ave already used the XP cd
with no dell motherboard to upgrade so it should work?

- Would the XP installation disk automatically boot with no OS?

- I wouldn't need to remove the XP OS from the old hard drive as im getting
rid of them, or if i do how as i can't find uninstall windows in add/remove
programs that other guides stated? (even in safe mode)

So it cvannot legally be installed on any other computer, ever.

which is a person made one,we used the dell XP disk

Thereby committing software piracy.

as it had a windows
certificate on the case stating 2 CPU's,

A CPU is a small chip inside a computer. This most definitely does not
allow you to install the single licnese on two computers.

i upgraded my pc from 98, which was
too slow for the things i used the desktop for, so i used the dell XP disk to
upgrade and used the key to activate and it all went through, there is a max.

If you want to use WinXP on a second computer, you need to purchase a
second license. (Or restrict you questions to forums dedicated to
helping people steal.)

people steal??

Im NOT a criminal and you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.. im a 16 year
old student and i have just taken my GCSE's and im rather stressed and this
is tipping me to the edge.

I thought these forums were to help people.. well i feel im getting good

doesn't really go down well. Maybe you shouln't even post on my threads if
your going to try get me down or critisize me!
