Please Help.....I/O Device Error.............

When I copy files to another computer or to a back up drive attached
through a USB port I keep getting the error message "The request could
not be performed because of an I/O Device error". I've tried splitting
up the files, rarring them, renaming them and everything I could think
of but nothing works. When I split the files into smaller segments
there's always a few files that will cause this error so I can't copy
the complete files. It's getting to the point where I can't back up
anything. Does anyone have any suggestions. This is driving me crazy!
Thanks.

I was having a similar problem as (e-mail address removed). I have a
extra storage space and sometimes I was getting an I/O error. I went to clean
my storage unit by making back up data disks but some of the files wouldn't
read or would hang up. I tried to do a disk check and selected to fix or
repair the bad segments. During the check a bad movie file was found and
deleted. Now I can't get into my storage unit, saying "the parameters are
incorrect". I replaced the IDE cables with faster data cables. I've even went
to redownload drivers and end up having my OS (xp home) crash and then having
to restore my OS. Now I have my OS running but I still can't get into the
space. I know I may have to redo my drivers and things (cause you have to
redownload and install some programs and drivers). I've ran the Maxtor's max
blast ... I can see where the space is there but I just can't get to it ...
pleas help ... i'm going up the wall with this one. Thanks

I ran the disk-check.....same results. Any large files and 1/3 of
smaller files still gives me an I/O error and will not copy???????
