Please help! Event ID 1014

OS: XP Pro SP1

A downloaded software package will not install, and the
vendor suggestions have not yet helped.

The Event Log shows Event ID 1014 "Windows Installer proxy
information not correctly registered"

This MS site lists only the event by name, but does not
say what might really be wrong.

Any idea what's causing this failure?

Vendor name? Software package and type?
