PLEASE HELP - Cannot browse workgroup users files on Win2k server

Dave

At work we have a Windows 2000 domain server - The server
is only used for security I think. With the server turned
on or off all the computrs can access the internet,
send/receive email, and use a network printer that is
plugged into the same hub.

The problem I'm having is that workgroup users cannot
browse other workgroup users files. The workgroup
computers see each other in my network places\entire
network\workgroup but cannot access the files on these
computers.

I have tried loging all users on to the domain server and
then back on to the workgroup they were on when it peer to
peer file access was working. I checked the active
directory to make sure all the computers in the workgroup
were listed there, and they are. I replaced the switch
because it had a loose port. On the new switch the server,
workgroup computers and a network printer are plugged in.
I have the workgroup computers using DHCP right now, and
like I said before they access the internet and a newtwork
printer.

The errors I receive when trying to browse another
workgroup users files are:

1. Logon failure account currently disabled.

2. Network path not found.

3. You do not have the appropriate access rights for this
server.

Please help!!

First of all, you need to be extremely clear when throwing around words like
workgroup and domain, the two are very very different. A Windows 2000
computer can either be in a workgroup (peer2peer) or in a domain (NT or
Active Directory), but it CANNOT be in both at the same time. This doesn't
mean that a workgroup computer cannot access domain computers and vice
versa. Please do not call them "workgroup" computers if they are on a
domain - that is very comfusing.

Next, shares must be setup and permissions granted on the computers if you
want to access them from another computer IF they are in the same workgroup
or domain.
