Playing Video Tapes on Fox News Channel

This is driving me a bit wacky--on my wife's Toshiba Laptop running IE6,
Windows XP Professional, SP2, she can view the video news reports on the Fox
News Channel( http://www.foxnews.com/)in Windows Media Player 10 with no
trouble. When I try on my Dell Laptop running IE6, Windows XP Home, SP2,
they won't run. I get a popup asking for which player and what download
speeds and then nothing. What settings on IE6 are stopping this? I have
Norton Antivirus and Spy Sweeper running but Fox News is excepted, as it is
in
Windows Firewall. I don't know quite what to try next. I have Java
installed and have turned off Windows Java VM. All the same software and
settings are in place on my wife's machine but I'm not sure about the IE6
settings.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have the Google toolbar but allow popups on
the Fox News site. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help

In the Tools | Manage Addons dialog, make sure that you have the proper
ActiveX controls enabled.

I don't know what that entails. I looked there and everything is enabled. I
didn't see anything about ActiveX--Java Console was there and some other
stuff. What should I look for? There was also a category for things that
had been used before but weren't active. Is that where they might be?
Finally, what should the settings for IE6 be for ActiveX when you go into the
Options area? I'm pretty new at this.

On the Tools menu, click Manage Add ons. On the dropdown, choose "Addins
which have been used by internet explorer". Scroll down to the Windows
Media Player entry(ies), and ensure that they are set to Enabled.

Everything is enabled in the Manage Addons area re WMP 10. How do I know
that the IE6 settings are right? I've changed some so that I can read text
in larger fonts. Are there ActiveX Controls there? I run SP 2 Firewall is
that a problem??

Use the Options, Security tab's Default Level button

Eric,
I'm having the exact same problem. But from a different news site. I know
Media player is working because I can play clips from hard drive. I have done
everything from running Spybot, cleaning registry, removing and reloading
Media player, installing codecs, setting IE back to default, and removing
QuickTime. But I can't find the Tools|Manage Addins that you are referring
to. Can you tell me where to look?

Thank you,
Debra
