playing video in ppt

I can't insert a video clip in a ppt slide. All I get is a black area. I
want to be able to click on the slide and have the clip begin to play. I'm
using WIndows Video Player which I thought was capatible with ppt.

Vedio Player is not capatible with ppt.

Put the video into a folder with the presentation and use insert > movies and
sounds > movie from file. Ideally the folder used should be directly on the C
drive.

Powerpoint does not USE Windows Media Player to play videos but wmv videos
are compatible with powerpoint.

You can not play your presentations in Video Player bacause the ppt file
format can not be decoded by
it. If you want to play it in this player you have to converter the format
from ppt to video(AVI, MPEG,MOV, etc) by using some conversion pragram
like PPT2DVD(http://www5ppt-to-dvd.com/).

In addtion, in most cases, one can insert a video chip to a ppt slide.
Maybe there are some wrong settings so you fail to do so . You'd better
check up.

I had tried that also, but it still didn't work. Can you tell me another way
to do this? If I rip a clip from a dvd, how can I save it or do it so I can
play from ppt? I know it can be done.

ok, you are way more tech savy than I am! The movie clip is mpeg. I used a
dvd ripper to save a 2 min clip from a dvd. I want to use it in my teaching.
Any suggestions? But you have to tell me in language a nontechsavy person
can understand! :)

DVD's are in mpeg2 format which is a licensed format. You can only play if
you have an mpeg2 codec installed. These are typically installed with a DVD
player program like PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc. You must have one installed or
you couldn't play your clip in Windows Media Player. Try inserting a
Windows Media Player object onto a slide. You do this through the "more
controls" icon on the menu (Hammer and wrench icon). Scroll down the pop up
list of tools until you see Windows Media Player and insert one of those.
Then
right click the inserted media player object, select properties and set the
URL field to point to your video clip. Run it and see if that works.
